O.M. Offshore Monitoring Ltd (OSM) is an SME aiming to improve efficiency, safety, security and navigation for commercial shipping and other related offshore activities by transferring non-maritime emerging technologies to the maritime/offshore market place. OSM has invented and developed several technological surveillance concepts for the offshore, shipping and port industries and managed/coordinated several multi-national commercialization and R&D projects. One of the main characteristics of OSM is that the company focus and solve specific challenges/aspects where end-users/clients see a potential need to improve their operations (for safety, efficiency, security, environmental compliance, etc.).

Global Maritime Services Ltd (GMS) is developing services for the high value shipping and port industries, primarily based on EO data. Understanding the needs of the maritime/offshore industries together with continuous technological research within the combined exploitation of maritime observation technologies and data distribution services are key GMS success factors. GMS core expertise is within maritime observation technologies and data distribution and presentation technologies where the company is able to realize data management and signal processing concepts; and actual/recent/relevant sailing operations (as Masters) on various vessels.

Offshore Navigation Ltd (ONL) was established in 2014 with the mission to become the leading provider of voyage and route plan systems. ONL shall provide the most accurate and advanced navigation system for worldwide offshore and maritime use, that will enable greater fuel optimisation and make the global maritime transport sector more sustainable. ONL develops innovative route planning services based on the former EU funded FP7 project, SpaceNav (Space Based Maritime Navigation) (GA#607371). The SpaceNav concept consists of a route plan that guides vessels how to efficiently sail from one port to the next. The system contains unique observational capabilities and computational models based on space-born data to calculate the route for the vessels to follow. This in turn results in a safer and more economical execution of maritime and offshore operations.

Chalmers tekniska hoegskola (Chalmers University of Technology) was founded in 1829 following a donation by William Chalmers, director of the Swedish East India Company, and was transformed into an independent foundation in 1994. Chalmers has developed leading research in the areas of life sciences, materials science, information technology, micro-and nanotechnology, environmental sciences and energy. Chalmers’ annual turnover is 3597 million SEK (appr. 400 million EUR), out of which 70 % is related to research. Around 60 % of the research funding is acquired in competition from external sources. Some 13,000 people, including 3,240 employees (3,065 FTEs), work and study in Chalmers’ 17 departments. The university offers PhD and Licentiate programmes as well as MScEng, MArch, BEng and nautical programmes. There are 6,600 students (FTE) in programmes leading to 1,200 Master’s degrees annually. About 1 160 students are involved in doctoral programs leading to 300 PhD and Licentiate of Technology degrees each year.

The Department of Shipping and Marine Technology (SMT) has strong research groups working on the development of sail plan service related research activities such as the maritime safety of ship stability, sea keeping properties, structural integrity, maritime environment and energy efficient ship design and operations, as well as the practical ship operation training; where as the Department of Earth and Space Sciences (ESS) has 3 expert groups focusing on satellite remote sensing where they develop highly sensitive measuring instruments and observational methods, as well as advanced algorithms for data analysis and theoretical models.
